Patrick Day got his love of boxing from his father who took it up to keep fit as he studied to be a boxer. His natural athleticism and strong mindset suited the sport and Day quickly graduated from the amateur to professional league, being recognized as the number-one boxer in the United States in the 152-pound amateur division in 2012. Even throughout his professional career Day maintained studying earning an associate degree in nutrition from Nassau Community College, and a bachelor's degree in health and wellness from Kaplan University. He held the enviable record of winning 17 of his 22 professional fights, with four defeats and one draw. Day died aged 27, four days after suffering a head injury in the USBA super welterweight title bout on October 12, 2019, against Charles Cornwell.
